We are a Veteran Owned and Operated crafting business. Our vision is to create designs that inspire and captivate. As a boutique craft store, we pride ourselves on our unique offerings that reflect the artistry and individuality of our creators. Each item is thoughtfully produced with varied techniques and materials, ensuring that every piece is distinct and carries its own story. Our commitment to quality and creativity not only sets us apart but also fosters a deeper connection with our customers, encouraging them to appreciate the significance of handcrafted goods in a mass-produced world.
The "Soldier Suicide Awareness" quilt is an example of this. From personal experiences we understand the impact of the high rate of suicides among Veterans. This quilt was designed to bring light to the subject. We aim to start conversations. We must advocate for those who are struggling.
I started my adult life in the United States Army. I transitioned from that to several different federal agencies until my retirement in 2016. After retirement, I discovered I don't sit still well. With the gift of a sewing machine from a family member, I started teaching myself the basics of sewing and eventually to quilt; although I still hire out the topstitching and I can make a sailor blush when it comes to binding. :-)
It didn't take long and a friend showed me the capabilities of machine embroidery. I soon couldn't get enough. Within 4 years or so I had traded up to bigger and better embroidery machines multiple times. Finally, I decided it was time to go to a 10 needle (business machine). It has served me well.
In that time frame I learned how to create ( Digitize) my own designs using embroidery software and eventually was asked if I would teach classes to local customers. I absolutely adore my students, and I love watching each persons creative mind at work.
With the help of an old friend, and eventually my crafting partner in crime, I learned many more crafting skills. I was taught to "try it", something my perfectionist mind struggles to do. This started a journey working with resin, clay, sublimation, vinyl, silk screen, a laser and most recently a fabric printer. Yes, jack of all trades and master of none. The fun though, is the process itself.
My family and friends are very supportive of my "crafting" but there is only so much room or so many items they truly want. Therefore, I decided selling a few here and there was a viable option-if only to further support my craft addiction.
Welcome aboard the journey! Hopefully you will find some items of interest here.
While D & D Design is primarily operated by the the owner there is a silent partner in the mix.
These two parties met while serving in the United States Army, at the same duty station. Leave it to Facebook and curiosity and our unit reconnected in ways others could not.
For most of our adult lives we lived across the country from each other but maintained regular contact. Then eventually "D" got tired of the east coast and packed up and moved across country.
While each knew the other was a crafter, the ideas and skills began to thrive. The varied skills and techniques began to come together and create cohesive unique designs.
This author cannot draw a stick figure but "D" can draw anything. His preferred style of art is "tattoo". A hobby he learned since moving here, and I have several pieces of art to show for it.
"D" taught me skills in so many techniques that are now part of everyday projects. Even sewing-he's taught me more than I had on my own.
But, oddly, I was finally thrilled to "one" up him this past year. He off-handed stated "someday" he wanted to learn how to use a laser. And so, with the help of a friend he got one for Christmas. Then as luck would have it I had the ability to purchase one for myself. Now, the creativity has surpassed anything we truly thought we would ever do.
If you catch D & D together you can be pretty sure they are "cooking something up". Whether it be a project for gifts, projects for the store, projects for home or just looking for ammo to go to the range.
